The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, has announced that registration for the General Certificate Examination (GCE) 2017 for private candidates starts on Friday, 28th April. This was disclosed via the examination body official tweeter handle, @waecnigeria. It reads: “This is to inform intending candidates for the WASSCE for private candidates 2017 that registration begins on Friday this week. “Candidates are expected to pay a registration fee of thirteen thousand, nine hundred fifty naira N13,950 at any of the approved bank or any accredited agents to obtain the registration pin and information VCD. “Normal registration period is from Friday April 28 to June 28. The  Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA)  has temporarily suspended the national university Games which  began on Saturday in Makurdi, over what it called “technical hitches”. NUGA Secretary-General,  B. O. Orodele , who announced the suspension on Sunday in Makurdi, said that the action became necessary because “both athletes and contingent officials have not been accredited as required by the guidelines of the Games”. According to him: The temporary suspension will enable both the officials of NUGA and the host university to sort out the technical hitches. Reacting to the hitches, the President of NUGA,  Prof. Stephen Hanafyelto  of the University of Maiduguri, blamed the confusion on the ICT Unit of the association which “defied my instructions over accreditation”. Kano State government has established 13 computer-based registration and examination centres in its tertiary institutions to meet the standard of JAMB and other e-based empowerment programmes. Hafiz Abubakar, the state deputy governor, stated this during the commissioning of projects worth millions of naira at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dambatta. “This has been part of the effort being made under the present administration to rise up to the challenge of e-revolution in the management of education in the country and Audu Bako Collage of Agriculture Dambatta is one of the beneficiaries of this laudable initiative, and today we have officially commissioned this centre,” he said.
